Pogba’s original four-year doping ban was shortened to 18 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport concluded that his ingestion of a banned substance was unintentional. He was initially suspended in February after tests revealed high levels of testosterone, which boosts endurance.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Pogba made his stance clear: « This isn’t who I am. I’m not a cheater. I love my sport, and I’d never cheat. I like to win fairly. I’m a bad loser, but not a cheater. »

Pogba’s reduced ban began on 11 September 2023. Sources close to him told BBC Sport that he can resume training by January and return to competitive matches in March.

« I take some responsibility because I took the supplement, » Pogba admitted. « I didn’t triple-check it, even though it came from a professional. If I must be punished, I accept that—but four years would have been excessive. »
