Grammy-Winning Rapper Lil Durk Arrested in Connection to Fatal 2022 Ambush

Artist Held Without Bail Following Miami Arrest
Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Devontay Banks, was arrested Thursday in connection with a fatal ambush near the Beverly Center two years ago. Authorities took the rapper into custody near Miami, and he is currently being held without bail, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Prosecutors Cite Alleged Feud with Fellow Rapper Quando Rondo
Prosecutors claim that Lil Durk ordered the killing of rapper Quando Rondo, born Tyquian Terrel Bowman, following a violent feud between the two and their associates. This dispute reportedly stems from the 2020 death of King Von (born Dayvon Bennett), Lil Durk’s close friend and collaborator, who was fatally shot after a disagreement involving Rondo.

Fatal Ambush Mistakenly Targets Rondo’s Cousin
The 2022 ambush, however, ended in tragedy for Saviay’a Robinson, Rondo’s cousin. According to prosecutors, Durk’s associates mistakenly killed Robinson at a gas station near the Beverly Center, targeting him instead of Rondo.

Allegations of Financing the Ambush
The affidavit claims Lil Durk helped fund the operation, supplying a friend with a credit card used to book a hotel room, masks, and weapons for the five-man hit squad. Text messages from Durk’s iCloud also allegedly show him advising an associate to keep flight bookings anonymous, saying, “don’t book no flights under no names involved wit me.”

Co-Defendants and Arrests Across State Lines
On Thursday, law enforcement detained five alleged members of the hit squad in Chicago, identified as Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, all of whom are now listed as co-defendants alongside Lil Durk.

FBI Report: Attempted Escape Abroad
In a final twist, the FBI reports that Lil Durk was arrested hours before attempting to leave the country. According to the Los Angeles Times, the rapper had booked one-way flights to Dubai and Switzerland, with plans to join a private flight bound for Italy later that evening.
