Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s Electric Chemistr

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s chemistry on the set of their new film was so intense that they didn’t hear the cue to cut while filming a steamy love scene.

An Awkward Filming Moment

During an appearance at the 92nd Street Y on Friday to promote We Live in Time, Garfield humorously recounted filming a “very intimate, passionate sex scene” with Pugh. Both actors missed the director’s “cut” call, resulting in an awkward situation.

The First Take Mishap

Footage shared on social media showed Garfield explaining that this incident occurred during the first take of the love scene, filmed on a “closed set” with only the two actors, the camera operator, and the boom operator present.

“The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it,” Garfield said. “We got into it and went a bit further than planned because we never heard ‘cut.’”

A Telepathic Realization

Garfield noted that director John Crowley was in a separate room nearby. Over time, he felt that both he and Pugh were “telepathically” acknowledging that the take was lasting longer than expected.

They only recognized their mistake when they glanced at the crew, who were facing the wall out of politeness.

Safe Space on Set

While Garfield admitted the scene ran a tad long, he emphasized that he and Pugh felt “safe” enough in their filming environment to think, “we’ll let this progress and we’ll just carry on.”

We Live In Time, featuring Garfield and Pugh, tells the story of two individuals “brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives.” The film is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on October 11.
