Jürgen Klopp joins Red Bull as Head of Soccer

Jürgen Klopp Named Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer

Jürgen Klopp has officially been announced as the Global Head of Soccer for the Red Bull group, starting January 1, 2025. This will be Klopp’s first position since leaving Liverpool earlier this year, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.

The Red Bull organization, which owns several prominent soccer clubs including RB Leipzig in Germany, RB Salzburg in Austria, and New York Red Bulls in the U.S., will now have Klopp guiding its football operations at a global level.

A New Role After Leaving Liverpool

Klopp, who departed from Premier League powerhouse Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, is stepping into a significantly different role. Rather than managing a single club, he will now oversee a portfolio of teams under the Red Bull umbrella. Despite this shift, Klopp’s passion for the game remains as strong as ever.

“After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this,” Klopp said in a press release. “The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. »

Mentoring and Developing Global Talent

In his new role, Klopp will focus on mentoring coaches and management within the Red Bull group. While he won’t be involved in the day-to-day operations of the clubs, he will play a pivotal part in shaping Red Bull’s soccer philosophy, helping to develop young talent and coaching staff.

“By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve, and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal,” Klopp added. He emphasized that he sees himself as a mentor to the sports directors and managers of the Red Bull clubs, but also as a key part of an innovative and forward-looking organization.

The company confirmed Klopp’s focus will be on supporting sports directors in advancing Red Bull’s footballing vision. “He will also leverage his extensive network to aid in scouting top talent and contribute to the training and development of coaches,” a press release from Red Bull stated.

Success at Liverpool and Beyond

Jürgen Klopp left Liverpool after a nine-year tenure, during which he led the club to unprecedented success. Under his leadership, Liverpool won nearly every major trophy, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup. His impact on the team, and on the sport globally, was undeniable, as Liverpool also reached the finals of the Champions League twice and finished as Europa League runners-up once.

Before his time at Liverpool, Klopp was equally successful with Borussia Dortmund, where he won the German Bundesliga twice.

Potential Future as Germany’s National Coach

Interestingly, Klopp’s contract with Red Bull reportedly includes a clause allowing him to leave for a potential opportunity to coach the German national team. This possibility has long been speculated, as Klopp has been consistently linked with the Germany post. Currently, Julian Nagelsmann holds the position, but the door remains open for Klopp should the role become available.

Red Bull’s Excitement for Klopp’s Arrival

Red Bull’s CEO of corporate projects and investments, Oliver Mintzlaff, expressed his enthusiasm for Klopp’s appointment. “We are very proud of this outstanding and certainly the strongest signing in Red Bull’s soccer history,” Mintzlaff said. “Jürgen Klopp is one of the greatest and most influential figures in world soccer, with extraordinary skills and charisma. In his role as Head of Soccer, he will be a game changer for our involvement in international soccer and its continued development.”

A New Chapter Begins

As Klopp embarks on this new journey, both Red Bull and the global football community eagerly await the impact he will have on the organization’s teams. His experience, leadership, and vision are expected to bring a transformative approach to Red Bull’s soccer operations, helping their clubs grow both individually and collectively.
